During the week of June 23–26, 2025, PJM experienced its highest summer electricity demand since 2011, with system load surging past 160,000 MW. This was driven by a widespread heat dome across the Midwest, and an increase of data center load.
First Opportunity in 2025 for PJM’s C&I Customers to Curtail Load
This was the first opportunity in 2025 for PJM’s C&I customers to curtail load to manage peaks for PY 2026/2027 Peak Load Contribution (PLC) planning purposes. These peak demand events are important because your business’s PLC directly affects your capacity charges. This year, the new capacity auction price jumped to $270, almost ten times higher than last year.
