CyFair ISD Demonstrates What Energy Innovation at Scale Can Look Like
As Texas’s third-largest school district and largest suburban district, CyFair ISD (CFISD) has shown that even as campuses and square footage expand, electricity usage can be managed strategically through thoughtful planning, efficient equipment, and operational controls that support both cost savings and a high-quality learning environment.

Significant Energy Savings
Through the district’s innovative approach to energy management, they successfully reduced energy consumption costs from $1.20 per square foot to $1.06 per square foot in 2025, resulting in approximately $4.4 million in avoided energy costs compared to the 2022 baseline year. These achievements are particularly impressive given the district’s growth of more than 1 million additional square feet between 2022 through 2025.
TXU Energy is proud to have partnered with CFISD through the Greenback Rebate program for 11 years, from 2015 through 2025. During that time, CFISD redeemed $804,625 in Greenback rebates to support LED lighting, HVAC improvements, controls, retro-commissioning, and central plant optimization projects. Together, these efforts delivered approximately 13,238,679 annual kWh in energy savings and demonstrate the district’s sustained commitment to practical innovation and long-term operational value.

Sustainable Transportation
In 2023, the district purchased 10 electric buses to provide an environmentally conscious and cost-efficient transportation option for students and the community. This purchase complemented the district’s broader fleet transition, which includes 266 propane buses acquired in 2021 through the 2019 bond package to replace diesel vehicles.
